I liked the idea that British English is correct and American English is a foul abortion that's been raised by a stupid fat man. Until I found out 'faucet' is the original word and 'tap' just came about from nothing. The very foundations of my existence were shaken that day.

Both have changed drastically from their ancestor. That shouldn't be surprising. Neither is really closer to the language that was spoken prior to the migration to the colonies, which happened over centuries, remember, and people were coming back, too - the two have influenced eachother for as long as they've existed.

Um, I am actually eligible for Mensa. I just don't want to pay the entrance fee. And I am technically American. However, I do use British English. 19th century British English. I would like to use ancient English, but it is quite impractical.

Ha. So sad that the stereotypical American South accent denotes complete stupidity whereas any sort of English accent sounds highly intelligent to us. So silly. I'm cool with being an American though. And I don't have a southern accent, so it's ok.

Boston/ RI accents don't sound all that smart, either. 'I gawtta pahk the cah, then I am doing my staws with Chevyl and Ant'knee'. When I go out, I like to use a Russian or Swedish accent.

I love Boston accents. And New York. And Chicago. And I was massively disappointed to discover that people from New Jersey don't say it "Noo Joisey" anymore.

I had such a 'wikit' accent when I moved to Fl. I swear, tom, I actually talked like that. I read an article about how Americans are shifting emphasis in words. Like from 'AD-vert-is-ment' to 'ad-ver-TISE-ment'. But I have always talked with Mary Poppins english. I think South African accents are so funny. In Sweden, there is a province called Skåne. They speak with the strangest accent there. Skånskan, they call it. The province is pronouced as Skoah-neh' in standard svensk. But if you're from there, it's 'Skau-neh'. So bizarre.
