I'm starting to think I'm terrible at getting my point across. So often it happens to me that I'll be discussing something with someone and they'll make the assumption that I have all these opinions and start lecturing me, when in reality, my opinion already matches theirs. All I'm trying to do is make sure to gain balanced views on things, but whenever I ask questions (and since all my conversations take place online, I can go back and read how I phrased things, and I swear they are bereft of any sort of personal opinion!) I get lectures back which very clearly indicate the person assumes I have a strong opinion -- which is the opposite of my own -- and they must now prove me wrong.

Basically, I try and play the devil's advocate, but people always assume I'm the devil, and instead of answering questions, chastise me for my "opinion" and get personally offended.

How can I question people without offending them so? :confused:

In answer to your question...I don't know. I find it is a constant juggling act to keep from offending someone. It takes time to learn how to do it with each person you meet. Often, you never get that chance because one of you decides that the other isn't worth the trouble. That's life. So, don't be so hard on yourself.
