I did interrail when I was 17, it was great fun although I wished I had gone with people I liked more by the end of it. It was still a good experience. If you're nervous about starting out travelling alone why not just start with something easy? Go stay somewhere you've always wanted to visit in Europe just for a few days or so (assuming you can clock up the funds) and make sure there's lots there to keep you entertained so in the (unlikely) event that you don't end up hitting it off with anyone, you can still have a fascinating, contemplative getaway.

I guess it's all very well for me to give this advice but really I couldn't stomach that sort of thing. I hate being on my own. Right now I'm sitting in a room with about 3 of my best friends, as I am almost all of the time. The 5 people in this house don't so much live together as live on top of each other. Which suits me just fine, I can't stand being alone with my thoughts.

I need a balance. I can tolerate a little solitude if I have something to do. Otherwise I get incredibly restless and agitated. Equally I just get worn out if I have to spend too much time around people, and I absolutely hate intrusions into my privacy. I can't stand people showing up at my house unannounced (or in the case of family members, when I didn't know they were meant to be coming) because it's like they're invading my sanctuary. I always need a place I can retreat to to be alone, but I get cabin fever pretty quickly unless I make frequent excursions into the outside world. And I don't. After the fifth day of seeing no one but your parents and barely exchanging more than a few sentences with them, it starts to get to you.
Thing is, I lose interest in things so quickly that I'd run out of things to do pretty fast anywhere, or rather, going between all the different things would result in most of my time being spent on public transport, bored stiff and quite alone. There's not really any point in me, say, climbing a mountain to appreciate a famous vista, because I'd get to the top, have a brief glance around, say, "Well, that was nice!" and start heading back down where most people would be able to stop and be still and appreciate it. It's bad enough going hyperactive when I'm shut in; when I'm out it tends to result in reckless spending and terrible decisions, especially when there's no one to keep me in check. I kinda need a person there just so that I have a constant source of amusement.
I have been on my own in Amsterdam for a day when I lost my passport. I went to a French restaurant on a whim (mum got a ton of cash to me) and had the best meal I've ever eaten. Other than the waiter and the concierge, though, I spoke to not another living soul, nor did I dare to. The thought of going into a bar or something and just talking to someone, even though everyone was pretty friendly, was just terrifying. It'd probably have been fine if I'd gotten high, but I kinda didn't want to risk that when I was stuck for lack of a passport and all alone. It could have ended badly.

It's really hard working at a place where everybody comes in after church. I have to make smalltalk (which I hate) , and people are always like 'Church was great, we'd love to have you'. It's awful. Sometimes I quote Anton LaVey under my breath, just to keep me sane.
And I understand your loneliness. I was watching Honey and Clover (because I am a nerd), and it made me realise how alone I really am. When I am lying in bed and crying, I wish I had a friend to talk to. SOmetimes I just write letters to random addresses hoping maybe someone will write back.

Welthass then. But then my ex pointed out that Ricky Gervais makes everyone feel like the only intelligent person alive, so I'm fine now. I've been up for 30 hours, it's like there's an imbecile living inside my head and he's saying things into it. But now I'm going to bed so that I can sleep. I hope Colin is happy.

I used to be. I stopped playing it years ago. Never really got back into it. Charmander was my favourite.
