(a few minutes later rain was pouring down on us and all those poor girls had to worry about their make-up and expensive dresses >:D)

So I started posting on another forum that I haven't posted on in ages. It's where I met ex no. 2 (the Irish one, not the Canadian one) who was a lot more in love with me than I was with him. I broke up with him in the end, and I felt wretched for breaking his heart - as if it were something I'd had to do, but only because I wasn't good enough not to have to do it. But that's what I'm like, everything is always my fault as far as I'm concerned.
Anyway, so I was looking around a bit and it looks like he's with someone else from the forum now and quite happy. I felt a very odd mix of emotions - bittersweet reluctant nostalgic regret with the shame of an uncertainly failed duty served on a bed of mild, obliging envy and relieved pride. Not unpleasant, quite interesting in its novelty. I posted a thread to say I was back posting, he posted in it to say the place would be barely recognisable since I last visited, I posted to reply I would probably be barely recognisable, too. He replied, "Everything is ephemeral" - which I think is something I said to him once - with a smiley, and a link to the BBC shipping forecast theme. The shipping forecast was one of our things. I'm grinning like an idiot, that was so sweet of him.
