I usually take a couple benadryl if i can't sleep. Wine and reefer knock me on my ass, but since my mother started going to AA meetings, we don't have either of those in the house.

I've never tried listening to Joanna high, but I know she's one artist where I DO NOT want to drink at her shows. I want to be 100% lucid and remember every detail. Any show where I've had even a little to drink I have difficulty remembering. Dumb.
Anyways, I find that MOST of the time, alcohol only keeps me awake more...or just makes me sleep badly. Like maybe I'll fall asleep, but I'll wake up in a few hrs feeling gross, or I wake up really early in the morning. There was only one time where I went to bed after drinking and actually slept well where I think it was because of the drinks. But I have no idea why it worked that one time. Like I said, usually it doesn't. I mean, wine makes me super-sleepy, but when it comes to actually falling asleep...I don't know. I feel like whenever I lie down to sleep, I'm suddenly hyper-aware of my heart beating and I don't know if it's actually racing, but for some reason being aware of it makes it seem like it is. Like the crazed state you were just describing, Owen, sounds like how I normally feel trying to sleep completely sober. :rolleyes:

And sometimes I feel like if I'm the least bit inebriated, I'm even MORE hyper-aware of my heartbeat. I don't know. Probably I am just crazy.

I dunno, I enjoy Joanna in a really different way when I'm high. I mean also it depends on which drug. On uppers or hallucinogenics she doesn't really make sense, requires too much attention to really work. But when I've smoked a lot of draw I can love the poetry of her lines but less the overall meaning of the songs. Same with the orchestration. But I do get a lot out of it; last night I was stoned and thought 'scrape your knee / it is only skin' was one of the most beautiful, vulnerable, evocative lines I'd ever heard in my life, and her delivery was key in my understanding of it. The single line conjured an entire world for me. It was pretty impressive. So anyway, yeah.

As I was saying in the happy thread, I've started a new job in a music store, which is relevant to my interests, blah blah blah...
The bad part is until my two weeks are up at my other 2 jobs, I'm working 3 jobs, i.e. constantly. Now I'm at the university auditorium job that allows me to be on this here messageboard (the one plus side of this job), because it's a desk job basically designed for students to be able to do their homework. The main part of this job is answering phones and unlocking doors for people, but some asshat has made off with the main set of keys, including the master that opens almost every door in the building. So now I have like, four sets of 20 keys that should open everything...but nobody knows which is which and I have to guess.
And then all these college students who also work this job have been constantly calling me to try to trade shifts because "wahhh, I have a final that should have been on my syllabus since the beginning of the semester, but I failed to put in a request for that day off and couldn't seem to remember I had it until the day before so I need you to cover for me wahhh my life is so hard!" Apparently they think I'm just farting around doing nothing when I'm not here and have nothing better to do than cover for them. The same thing was happening at my other old job and I'm so glad that after next tuesday I will be done with both of those! :evil:

At first I was all cool and looking at the bright side, that while working this much I would finally be making some money. But now after all this working and having no time to practice my music or do anything fun, I am turning into a grumpy bunny where I want to strangle everyone. Besides the fact that I've been working the new job over 2 weeks and have yet to be paid. I was just given a form to fill out 2 days ago, which I won't be able to hand in until friday. Grrrrrrrrr.
ALL WORK AND NO PLAY (OR MONEY) MAKES BECCA WANT TO PUNCH BABIES.
