How to be a Serial Killer is one of my favorite movies. ironically, the guy who plays the killer's apprentice also plays dr. ried on criminal minds, a man who catches serial killers.

Looking up the lunar eclipse to see why it's a big deal (it's a total eclipse, which is rarer), I found out that that dark blue band you see on the horizon at sunrise and sunset is the Earth's shadow. Awesome.

It's a total eclipse that's happening on the Winter Solstice, which makes it even less common. I found a couple of articles about it with different gaps in time between now and the last one...372 years, and 500 years. I don't know yet which is correct, but it's still a long time either way.

Maybe they're both using the same numbers to different degrees of accuracy? The last total eclipse on the day on the same day as the winter solstice was in 1638, 372 years ago, yes.

Ours was sort of the same colour as the sky. A kind of dark purpleish blue. When my dad pointed it out to me it was kind of hard to make it out from the surrounding sky.
